Ben’s Movers Tips

Tips and Recommendation

Moving home can be challenging. Here are few helpful tips to make your move less stressful.

Children. It is recommended that young kids are away from home during your move. Moving furniture comes with some risks and hazards, keeping kids away during this process will prevent them from getting hurt.

Pets. It is best that animals are away from home when you move. Pets can get on the way of the movers and can get hurt. Keeping them in one of the rooms in the house during moving, is also a good idea.

Packing. When packing a box, make sure that the box is sealed firmly with a tape. This will prevent your belongings from falling out and getting damaged, while moving from one place to another. It is also recommended to label the boxes of what room they belong to, ie, kitchen. This will make your unpacking easier.

Fridges. Empty your fridge and freezer of food. Fridge trays can be left inside. Once the fridge has been moved, it is a manufacturers recommendation that a fridge is left off for one hour before switching on.

Fragile items. It is recommended to use bubble wraps for your fragile items. This will bring risk of damage to your items to minimum. Some prefer to transport things like computers, laptops, musical equipment, ornaments etc in their own car. If these things are packed properly, they can also be loaded in the truck.

Drawers. It is advisable to empty your clothing drawers of items other than clothes. This means no liquids, valuables, or fragile items left in the drawers. If the drawers are of high value, fully emptying it is recommended. The less weight the drawers have, the more control we will have when moving them.

You can help or direct the movers during the process. Many hands make the work lighter. There are some things you can do prior or during the move. These include dismantling beds, tables, removing couch feet, unpluming washing machine, earthquake bracekts, etc.

Please note that we are happy to do these as part of the service too.
